Glass and Steel Sculptures
“Moss is Fodder for the Stone”
Lisa Turner’s poems and journal entries became the catalyst for this sculpture series. Informed by the random debris found on the beaches of the Salish Sea, her work contemplates the delicate dance of fragility and strength, echoing the balance of nature and our human psyche.
Each piece made of a steel armature and hand blown glass vessel, has its own individual story to tell.
These works were made in collaboration with the talent and dedication of Kelly Backs, Blacksmith Artist- Robert’s Creek, B.C., Good Beasts Studio, Tyler Archibald and Jesse Bromm, Ruby Lewis, artist and bookmaker and Gillian Haigh, artist all based in Vancouver, B.C.

Waves wash, rocks tumble, the moon makes its journey across the sky

Sticks and stones offer shelter from the storm

Pulsating, floating, free of thought, the jellyfish dances

The percussion of waves is the sea’s harmony

Sand is the food of glass

A fallen tree on the forest floor nurses the next generation

Stone is fodder for the moss

Hold me, cradle, as you would baby robin

Evolution or passage, nature makes her own way

Symbiosis is nature’s reciprocity
